A team of 20 staff from Durlston Prep and Senior School have raised over £10,000 for Tommy’s – the baby charity, as they ran in the London Landmark’s Half Marathon over the Easter holidays.
The staff team consisting of members from across the school from Pre-Prep, Middle and Senior included teachers, senior leaders and support staff who were all persuaded to join teacher Mr Jack Harrison with a target of raising £6650 for the charity ‘Tommy’s’. Tommy’s provide expert advice and fund pioneering research to prevent stillbirth, miscarriage and premature birth; a very worthy charity making the arduous winter training worthwhile.
Durlston School prides itself on its ‘family’ ethos and the teamwork and camaraderie was certainly on display. Headmaster, Richard May, who was also part of the team, commented “this fantastic effort and support from the whole Durlston Family is a true testament to the wonderful staff, pupils and parents – it really does show what a close team we are”.
Regardless of experience and speed the whole team were rightly proud of their achievement and there were notable results. Head of Geography and Year 7 Form Teacher, Mrs Mason, crossed the line in 2 hours and 3 minutes, just behind Mr Adam Foster, Year 5 Form Teacher who came in at 2 hours and 20 seconds!
Mr Jack Harrison, the team organiser said “Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages of support and the very generous donations. We never thought we would ever reach such a staggering amount of money. It’s incredible to think what a difference it will make. I am super proud of each and every runner- 21km is a heck of a distance and what a commitment from everyone! We truly work at the best school surrounded by amazing people.”
