Durlston ‘LEAD’ the way!

After welcoming our first Year 9 pupils in September, as part of our extension to 16 and GCSE, we have introduced ‘Life Experiences at Durlston’ (LE@D). This innovative programme aims to teach key life skills to senior pupils as well as offering a wider view of the world of work.

Lessons to date for the Year 9 pupils have included lessons in car and bike maintenance, changing a plug and making a bed! The pupils have also received a skills workshop delivered by the British Army. In addition to practical skills, pupils have welcomed visiting speakers to introduce them to the world of work. Jimmy Cregan, founder of ‘Jimmy’s Iced Coffee’ inspired the pupils with his story of entrepreneurial drive and the Head Doctor of Southampton Football Club explained his own fascinating career journey- giving the pupils an insight into how sport and science come together in this type of career.

Over the coming months the programme will continue to offer the pupils a wider view of the world, something which is the school value supporting their already extensive range of opportunities.
